Combating Winter Dryness!

I do not know about you,
BUT, the winter is rough on me in every aspect. Like c’mon, it gets dark outside before 5 pm everyday, every SINGLE thing is gloomy and grey, and if we get a sunny day, it’s like finding a four-leaf clover! Not to mention the cold weather, I was born and raised in New York City, and each year, once November comes around, I’m shocked when the temperature reads below 40 degrees then I ask myself why do I subject myself to this type of torture year after year. When the cold weather arrives, we also welcome the harsh factors that come along with the season *rolls eyes obnoxiously* What TRULY gets to me the most is how scaly, rough, pale, and DRY my skin gets, actually it becomes excessively dry. Dry to the point that I don’t want one leg rubbing against the other. My skin looks and feels like the Sahara. It’s like all the moisture evaporated into thin air, and legs that feel like sandpaper is NEVER fun or will ever be sexy.
No matter how much I moisturized, with regular lotions, moisture never seemed to stick around... So, I had to do research and tryout different products to figure out what works best.
Here is what I gathered:

IF YOU DO NOT DRINK WATER, IT WILL SHOW ON THE BODY'S LARGEST ORGAN AKA OUR SKIN!!!!
Hydrating ourselves from within is IMPERATIVE to us, holding moisture in our bodies. SO, intaking 8 glasses of water a day in the winter is just as important as it would be on a hot summer's day. It would be best if you actually were drinking half your weight in ounces of water each day, but I was being lenient because you have to start somewhere. It is absolutely possible to suffer from dehydration in colder months, don't be fooled!

SEE WHAT INGREDIENTS WORK FOR YOU!!!
Ingredients matter and every BODY is different, what might work for me, might not work for you, and so on and so forth. Lotions are not moisturizing enough for me to apply on my skin in any month. My skin LOVES butters, it thrives with the use of them, it becomes supple and soft, unlike no other with its consistent use.
- Colloidal Oatmeal
-Rosehip oil
-Shea butter
-Cocoa butter
-Green tea
-Jojoba oil
-Honey
And Glycerin are ingredients that I always look for within the products that I choose. These are ingredients that tend to rebalance my skin's hydration levels, keep it nourished, and reduced the loss of moisture overall in the skin.
Bonus Tip: Exfoliate!
The use of a scrub TWO to THREE times weekly will keep skin at it's tiptop smoothness; it will allow the skin to absorb the products efficiently! Get that scaly skin outta here!! You're no reptile!
Ingredients to look for within scrubs are Sea Salts, Brown Sugar, Ground Coffee and my personal FAV Rice Bran!

CONSULT WITH A PROFESSIONAL

If you have any thoughts or concerns that the dryness in your skin is caused by an underlying issue, you may need to look into scheduling an appointment with a dermatologist! It can very much so be a possibility that the harsh winter months are triggering already dormant skin issues and causing flare-ups with dermatitis, rosacea, eczema, psoriasis winter rashes, and Raynaud's disease that would have to be diagnosed and treated by a doctor.
I hope these tips were helpful to you, and if you have any other, please comment below!
