Turmeric: The Wonderful Superfood!

Ever since I was a child,
my grandmother and great grandmother encouraged me to eat foods seasoned with curry. Since it influences a huge part of my Indian heritage, it wasn’t something out of the ordinary and always presented within our foods and our meals. Little did I know then, the reason it was pushed on me to consume it so often was because it contained healing properties that would benefit my overall health and body.
Turmeric is a spice that has been used in India and other countries throughout the Eastern Hemisphere. And for hundreds of thousands of years, Turmeric has been considered a medicinal herb. It is also the reason that curry has its rich and vibrant yellow coloring. Turmeric contains Curcumin; it is the main active ingredient within the spice. Curcumin has potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. As you know, Chronic inflammation PLAGUES our society (Western) and is a significant contributor to many of the common diseases we battle with today. So, when we a natural substance that can help fight inflammation without the side effects of medication, we have a better chance at preventing, treating, and even finding a cure for these illnesses and diseases.
Because Turmeric contains Curcumin, and Curcumin is a substance with potentially the most potent antioxidant properties, it protects the body from free radicals. According to an article on Medical News Today “Free radicals are unstable atoms that can damage cells, causing illness and aging. Free radicals are linked to aging and a host of diseases, but little is known about their role in human health, or how to prevent them from making people sick.” Curcumin also encourages the body to boost its own antioxidant enzymes, which also allows it to be a dominant defense in anything that could attack the immune system. Studies have shown that Curcumin can lower the risks of heart disease, may help treat and prevent cancer, and also be an aid in treating and preventing Alzheimer's. Turmeric seems to be pretty amazing and, indeed, a superfood!
There are many ways that I've incorporated the use of Turmeric into my life and my daily routine.
It's simple,
Intake it, and apply it directly to the skin!
Remember earlier when I said that Tumeric has anti-inflammatory properties? Well, Acne, also known as Acne vulgaris, is a chronic inflammatory disease that attacks the skin. Acne occurs when your hair follicles become plugged with oil, dead skin cells and believe or not, other environmental factors. It often causes whiteheads, blackheads or pimples, and also comes in the form of comedones, pustules, and papules. Acne usually appears on your face, in areas like your forehead, cheeks, chin and even on your body like your chest, upper back, and shoulders. Turmeric is a great spice to use when trying to get Acne under control. When my skin looked like this:
is when I decided I was going to get this under control in a natural way. Here are some ways I incorporated Turmeric more frequently in my routine:
